West Ham United play Norwich City on 8/31/19 at the London Stadium as English Premier League action continues.

Soccer West Ham United

West Ham United are one of the eight English clubs who have never played below the second level of the English Football system. They have played in the top flight in 61 out of the 93 Premier League season. Last season, Manuel Pellegrini had varied results in his maiden season as in charge. They were very inconsistent throughout the season but finished strong and in the upper half of the final table at 10th place. Pellegrini hopes that he could carry the momentum to this current season and help them finish better. West Ham enters this game as the soccer betting favorite to beat Norwich City.

Soccer Norwich City

After a sluggish start to the previous season, Norwich City recovered and finished 5 points ahead of their closest rivals to win the Championship last season. That championship win secured promotion and ensured their return to the top flight for the 2019/20 term. Daniel Farke was appointed as the team’s first foreign coach in 2017 and he used a possession-based fast style of football which he was successful within Dortmund. Teemu Pukki led the team in scoring during the last term and he was key in putting the club on top of the Championship table for the most of the 2018/19 season.

This is the Norwich City squad as of July 31, 2019:

1 GK Tim Krul, 2 DF Max Aarons, 3 DF Sam Byram, 4 DF Ben Godfrey, 5 DF Grant Hanley (captain), 6 DF Christoph Zimmerman, 7 MF Patrick Roberts (on loan from Manchester City), 8 MF Mario Vrancic, 10 MF Moritz Leitner, 11 Onel Hernandez, 12 DF Jamal Lewis, 14 MF Todd Cantwell, 15 DF Timm Klose, 16 DF Philip Heise, 17 MF Buendia, 18 MF Marco Steipermann, MF Tom Trybull, 20 FW Josip Drmic, 21 GK Ralf Fahrmann, 22 FW Teemu Pukki, 23 Kenny McLean, 27 MF Alexander Tettey, 32 Dennis Srbeny, 33 GK Michael McGovern, 34 MF Louis Thompson, 35 FW Adam Idah, GK Aston Oxborough, MF Ben Marshall

Soccer Who Wins?

West Ham United was blanked by Manchester City 0-5 in their opener and they managed a draw with Brighton in their second match to earn their first point of the season. They face Watford next and hope to get their first victory there on August 24th.

Declan Rice will play a major role for West Ham as the team isn’t 100% healthy yet. Last season, they struggled to find consistency all season long with the likes of Manuel Lanzini, Carlos Sanchez, Andriy Yarmolenko, Jack Wilshere, Winston Reid and Andy Carroll suffering injuries that forced each of them to miss at least one month of action. Despite that, they finished the season in 10th place.

Norwich City has opened the season with one win and a loss. A hat trick by Teemu Pukki gave them a 3-1 win over Newcastle United. That victory erased the stigma of a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in their season opener.

Daniel Farke’s boys played excellent football last season but that was against less quality opposition in the Championship. The win over Newcastle proved they belong in this level but I think West Ham United, with most of its players back, have more quality on their line-up and better experience at this level. Prediction: West Ham United
