The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs will collide in a Big 12 match up on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

Both teams enter this match-up with 3-2 records and 1-1 in conference play. However, Texas Tech is fresh off  a 34-42 home loss to West Virginia last September 29th while Texas Christian is coming off a 17-14 win over Iowa State, also last 9/29/18.

Good Offense, Bad Defense

The Texas Tech season has been a mix of good offense and bad defense. The Red Raiders are the 8th highest scoring team in College Football and they also rank 2nd overall in Passing Yards per game. However, their defense has been abysmal so far this year as they rank just 91st in points allowed, 108th in total yards allowed and 122nd against the pass.

Freshman quarterback Alan Bowman has been outstanding for the Red Raiders this season as he’s tossed 1,680 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions in five games played this season. Prior to last week’s game, Bowman led FBS with 389.3 passing yards per game. Bowman suffered a collapsed lung in their previous game and his status for this game is an issue.

On the ground, sophomore quarterback Jett Duffey leads the team with 251 rushing yards. Duffey rushed for 86 yards with one rushing touchdown in their last game. Antoine Wesley leds all Texas Tech receivers with 8 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown against West Virginia. For the season, Wesley has 621 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.

Good Defense, Mediocre Offense

The Texas Christian Horned Frogs are the opposite of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. On defense, TCU ranks 12th in total yards allowed, 23rd against the pass, 33rd in points allowed and 35th versus the run. However, their offense has been middling at just over 30 points per game.

Quarterback Shawn Robinson is completing just 62.7% of his passes. Robinson has thrown for a total of 1015 yards with seven touchdowns but six interceptions. During the Horned Frogs’ 27-3 win over Texas Tech last year, Robinson went 6-14 for 105 yards with one score and no interceptions.

Darius Anderson leads TCU in rushing with 316 yards and two scores on the season. Robinson ranks third with 188 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Jalen Reagor has 359 receiving yards on 29 catches with three touchdowns for lead all TCU wide receivers.

Who Wins?

Texas Tech has won five out of the last nine meetings between these teams but TCU has won two out of the last three, including last year’s 27-3 road win over the Red Raiders. Texas Christian is also 14-5 SU in their last 19 games and 9-1 SU when playing at home.

The main issue in this game is the health of Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman who’s had a strong season so far. Bowman was initially declared out of this game with a lung injury but recent updates have said that the freshman QB is set to rejoin team activities on Thursday.

Betting Prediction

If Bowman is unable to start, the Red Raiders are likely going to go with sophomore Jett Duffey. While Duffey hasn’t had a strong season as Bowman, he is expected to fit in just fine as all Texas Tech QBs have generally played well under their system. I like the Red Raiders in this match-up, with or without Bowman because I have faith in their system more than the player. We’re picking Texas Tech to beat TCU on 10/11/18.

However, if Bowman’s injury worries you or if you aren’t with me that the Red Raiders can pull of the win SU, then you can always check out the other bets for this game to find the one you’re most comfortable with.

Meanwhile, TCU is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 October games, 1-5 in their last 6 games against teams with winning records and winless ATS in their last four conference games. The Horned Frogs are also just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games at home.

Betting Prediction

TCU has played good defense so far but against explosive offenses like Texas and Oklahoma State, they gave up 31 and 40 points, respectively, and lost both games. Texas Tech is the 8th most productive offense in the nation at 48.4 points per game and if the statement that all their quarterbacks fit well in their system, no doubt Texas Tech is going to score enough to cover the spread.

Prediction: Texas Tech +7.5

The total has gone over in four out of the last five games played by Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are the 8th best scoring team in the nation. And while the Horned Frogs’ offense has struggled this year, they are facing a defense that’s ranked just 91st in the country in points allowed at 31.0 points per game.

Betting Prediction

This should be a fun and high scoring game again because we have a top 10 scoring team who has poor defense going up against a mid-ranked offense.

Prediction: Over 63.5
