Texas State and Texas A&M face off at Kyle Field, College Station in Texas on August 29, 2019.

Texas State hired quarterback guru Jake Spatival as their new head coach and for a team that has won a total of 10 games in four seasons, fans are excited about their new bench tactician. Coach Spav has retooled the Bobcats and they are poised to put up a fight against Texas A&M. Don’t that Spatival was Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for opponent Texas A&M from 2013-15 so he knows a thing or two about the Aggies. The Bobcats’ defense has also improved in the last two years and that should make this game more interesting.

Texas A&M hopes to play spoiler in the SEC this season, their second under head coach Jimbo Fisher. Fisher arrived with big expectations last season and he delivered a 9-4 season which concluded in a 52-13 Gator Bowl win over NC State. Considering two of their losses came to Clemson and Alabama, this Aggies team may be better than many think they are. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic this season. Let’s start with QB Kellen Mond who flashed star potential last season. Their defensive line could claim to be the best group in the SEC and their WR corps has the potential to be elite. Texas A&M is the football betting favorites here although the Moneyline odds aren’t out yet as of this writing.

Football Who Wins?

Texas State is 2-8 SU in their last 10 games played. The Aggies are 2-15 SU in their last 17 rod games. Texas A&M is 4-1 SU in their last five games played and 5-0 SU in their last five games played at home. The Aggies are also 5-0 SU in their last five games against the Sun Belt Conference.

The Texas A&M defense defensive line lost several key players but then the talent level coming in is just as impressive as the ones that are gone. Overall, they should be able to contain a Texas State offense that is okay but not that good. Offensively, if his line can give him enough time to throw the football, QB Kellen Mond should get rolling early on. Prediction: Texas A&M

I’m not sure about this five touchdown prop because Texas State has an experienced defense. I also expect hiccups and sputters because this is week 1 and despite the elite talent level, Texas A&M won’t be as prolific as we’d expect them to be. That said, I’ll take the underdogs and the plus points here. Prediction: Texas State +34.5

These teams combined to score just 55.75 points per game last season but given that Kellen Mond is a year older and wiser on the football field, he should be able to lead the offense in a high-scoring affair. Prediction: Over 58
