The Philadelphia 76ers travel to Georgia to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night at the latter’s State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Basketball Resting For The Playoffs

The Sixers have virtually locked 3rd spot in the East with their 49-28 record. That’s why they are no longer taking any chances and are resting their big guns as much as they can to keep everyone healthy for the playoffs. Joel Embiid has been rested in their last two games due to load management while Jimmy Butler sat out their last game trying to heal up back tightness.

Embiid leads the Sixers with 27.5 points, 13.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. Butler is scoring 18.5 points, grabbing  5.3 rebounds, issuing 4.1 assists and taking 1.8 steals per game. Newcomer Tobias Harris is contributing 19.0 points and 7.9 rebounds while sharpshooter J.J. Redick is scoring 17.7 points per game. Ben Simmons is having a fantastic  all-around season with 17.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

The Sixers rank 4th in the league in team scoring at 115.1 points per game. Philadelphia is also the 4th best passing team in the NBA at 26.8 assists per game and they are also the #4 top rebounding squad at 47.7 boards hauled per contest. The Sixers are only 17th overall in scoring defense, allowing their opponents to score an average of 112.2 points per game.

Basketball Trae Proving Worth

Early in the season, many questioned the Atlanta Hawks decision to trade Luka Doncic on draft night after the 18-year old Euro sensation began making waves in Dallas. But slowly but surely, Trae Young is proving his worth in Atlanta. Displaying uncanny shot-making skills, impeccable passing and the willingness to take the big shot, Young is averaging over 25 points and 11 assists in his last five games.

John Collins leads the young Hawks with 19.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while Young is putting up 18.5 points and 8.0 dimes per contest for Atlanta. Veterans Taurean Prince and Kent Bazemore are scoring 13.4 and 11.6 points per game, respectively while Dewayne Dedmon is adding 10.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. Alex Len is also having a good year with 10.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

The Hawks are ranked 11th in the NBA in team scoring at 113.0 points per game. Atlanta is also the 10th best passing team in the league at 25.8 points per game. They are also the #11 rebounding team in the NBA at 46.1 boards grabbed per contest. The Hawks are dead last among 30 teams in scoring defense at 118.8 opponent points per game allowed.

Basketball Who Wins?

The Sixers are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games played. Philadelphia is 3-3 SU in their last six games played on the road. The Hawks are 6-4 SU in their last 10 games played and Atlanta is 5-2 SU in their last seven games played at home. Head to head, the Hawks are 6-4 SU in their last 10 meetings with the Sixers. Atlanta is also 8-2 SU in their last 10 home games against the Sixers.

The Sixers will once again be playing without Joel Embiid who is out due to load management and Jimmy Butler who suffering back tightness. Philly leaned on Tobias Harris, J.J. Redick and Ben Simmons against the Mavs in Dallas on Monday night. But without both their two undisputed leaders, the Sixers fell 102-122.

The Hawks meanwhile are 4-1 SU in their last five games with home wins over the Bucks, Jazz and Sixers during that stretch. They are out of the playoffs already but have been playing well as of late behind rookie Trae Young who is averaging 25.2 points and 11.4 assists per game in his last five games played.

With five games left to play, the Sixers are five games behind Toronto for the 3rd seed and are 4.5 games up on Boston who is chasing them for the 4th seed. Philadelphia is probably where they are in terms of seeding so there may be no need to win this game except to keep themselves in good form. Without Embiid and Butler, they also have no leader on the floor. The stage is ripe for another win by the Hawks in a head to head series Atlanta has played well in. I’m picking the Atlanta Hawks to beat the Philadelphia 76ers on 4/3/19.

The Sixers are 12-18 ATS in their last 30 road games against the Eastern Conference, 1-3 ATS in their last four games against the Southeast Division. The Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against the Eastern Conference and are 3-1 ATS in their last four games against the Atlantic Division. We saw Dallas beat Philly as the latter played without Embiid and Butler. I think we’re seeing that kind of effort again on Wednesday. The Sixers have already achieved their regular season goal, they don’t need this win as badly. Prediction: Sixers

The Sixers are 4th and the Hawks  are 11th in the league in scoring so you’d expect both teams to put up tons of points. Philly may be missing two key players but they have more than enough scorers in their roster to fill the scoresheets. And yes, don’t forget Atlanta gives up more points than anybody else in the league so this should be a high scoring game. Prediction: Over
