New Castle United is one of the oldest and most consistent football clubs in England. The Magpies have been in the Premier League in all but three years of the competition’s history. As of 2018, Newcastle United has spent 86 years playing in top flight. This team has won a total of four League Championship titles, six FA Cups and one Charity Shield as well as the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. In all, they have the 9th highest trophy total of any English Club. After suffering relegation and decline from 2006-2010, Newcastle returned to the Premier League by winning the Championship title in 2017. They finished 10th in the league in their first term back, their best finish in four seasons. They finished 13th in 2018 but staved off relegation and then hired Steve Bruce just this month (July 2019) and they finished third in the preseason tournament 2019 Premier League Asia Trophy

Arsenal was the first club from South of England to join the Football League. They have only been relegated once in 1913 and own the record for the longest streak in top-flight. Arsenal has also won the second-most matches in the Premier League. In total, the Gunners have won 13 League titles, 13 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, 15 FA Community Shields, 1 League Centenary Trophy, 1 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and 1 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. In Spaniard Unai Emery’s first season as head coach, Arsenal showed some flashes of brilliance, especially when they went unbeaten on a 22-match run from late August to mid-December. They would end up coming up short in their attempt to qualify for the Champions League as they finished 5th in the Premier League table while losing to Chelsea in the Europa League final. Arsenal heads to this St. James Park showdown as the soccer betting favorites to beat Newcastle United. Last season, six of their seven wins on the road came against teams from the bottom half of the table.

Who Wins?
New Castle has won just twice in their last five matches. On the other hand, Arsenal has three wins in its last five games played. Head to head, this will be the 12th meeting between these two teams and so far it’s Arsenal who leads the series with 7 wins as compared to Newcastle’s four wins.
Newcastle finished strong getting 10 out of a possible 15 points. They capped off the last term with a 4-0 victory over Fulham and climbed to 13th in the final Premier League table. However, that glimmer of hope may be all but gone after Ayoze Perez, Salomon Rondon and Mohamed Diame followed manager Rafael Benitez to the exit door. Steve Bruce is their new boss and he is a proven performer who can glue it all together. Making sure the Magpies don’t fall off this coming term is easier said than done though, especially against Arsenal.
Arsenal has found St James Park as their favorite hunting ground. The Gunners won over the Magpies twice last season and have won five out of their last six matches on the road at St. James Park. Also, six out of Arsenal’s seven domestic road wins came against teams from the bottom half of the Premier League table. I don’t see how United’s summer transactions are going to stop the bleeding at home. I’m picking the Arsenal Gunners to beat Newcastle United on 8/11/19. Prediction: Arsenal
