The New York Mets take on the San Francisco Giants in Game 2 of a three-game set on Tuesday night at Oracle Park.

These two teams were still playing Game 1 as of this writing with the Giants up 7-5 in the top of the 8th inning. The Mets are coming off a series where they were swept 3-0 by the L.A. Dodgers while the Giants took their four-game set against the Colorado Rockies 3-1.

This will mark the second of six meetings between these two teams this season.

Baseball San Francisco Giants

The Giants have been one of the best stories in the majors this season and lead the majors with a record of 76-42. San Francisco is currently four games ahead of the defending champions Dodgers in the division and league standings right now. San Francisco defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 in their most recent series.

The Giants rank 5th in OPS at .765 and they are tied with the Toronto Blue Jays with 162 home runs on the season. San Francisco is also 4th with a total of 440 walks. Shortstop Brandon Crawford is the team’s best offensive weapon with 69 RBI and 19 home runs with an OPS of .905.

Logan Webb will open on top of the mound for the Giants. The 26-year old right-hander is in the middle of a breakout season where he has posted a record of 6-3 with an ERA of 2.96 in 16 starts. Webb has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his last 10 starts and the Giants are 9-1 during that period. Webb is 4-0 with an ERA of 158 when pitching at home this season. Webb has not allowed a home run when pitching at home and he’s never conceded more than one home run in any game this season.

Baseball Who Wins?

The Mets are 4-10 in their last 14 games played. New York is 1-6 in their last seven games played on the road, 1-5 in their last six Game 1 of a series, 1-5 in their last six games against a starter with a WHIP of less than 1.15, 0-6 in their last six games as the betting underdog, and 0-6 in their last six games against an opponent with a winning record.

The Giants are 7-1 in their last eight games played. San Francisco is also 7-1 in their last eight games played at home, 8-2 in their last 10 Monday games, 4-0 in their last four games against the National League East, 39-14 in their last 53 games as home favorites, 24-9 in their last 33 Game 1 of a series, and 35-17 in their last 52 games played on grass.

The Mets have been fading fast and have lost seven out of their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Giants have lost just twice in their last 10 games played and are currently the best team in baseball.

Stroman has been pitching well this season and he is coming off a good start against the Nationals the last time out. Meanwhile, Webb is having a breakout season and has given up two earned runs or less in his previous 10 starts.

The Giants rank first in the league in home runs and are in the Top 10 in hits, RBI, walks, batting average, OBP, SLG, and OPS. New York has been terrible on offense this season. They rank in the bottom 5 in the league when it comes to runs, hits, home runs, and RBI. They are also in the bottom 10 in batting average.

With both starting pitchers throwing well this season, this game should go down to the better offense and the Giants have that. Give me the Giants to win Game 2.

Prediction: San Francisco Giants -153

What are the Total Odds?

8 (+105)

Odds from BetOnline as of 08/17/2021

These two teams rank in the Top 10 in most pitching categories and we have two starters who are having terrific seasons. Webb has not allowed more than two earned runs in his last 10 starts while Stroman has given up only 12 home runs in 25 starts this season.

Earlier, we talked about the Mets rankings among the bottom teams in a lot of offensive statistics and while the Giants will score enough runs to win, they won’t get help to get the total go over. This should be a low-scoring game.

Prediction: Under 8
