he Jacksonville Jaguars hit the road and travel to the MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets on Thursday night.

Jacksonville is 6-8 SU on the season and they have lost just once in their last four games to move to within a game of the Tennessee Titans in the team standings. Jacksonville pulled off a dramatic 30-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys last week, intercepting Dak Prescott in OT to score the game-winning touchdown.

New York has fallen out of the wild card race after suffering consecutive losses to the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, and Detroit Lions. The 7-7 SU Jets will ask Zach Wilson to start for the second straight game with Mike Whit still nursing a rib injury. Wilson was supplanted from the starting QB job by White earlier this season.

Football Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have entered the playoff conversation after winning four out of their last six games played. Jacksonville is 6-7-1 ATS on the year but is 4-1-1 ATS over their last six games played. Their offense is averaging 367.9 yards per game this season but that has increased to 374.5 over their last six outings.

Trevor Lawrence is averaging just 230 passing yards per game in his first 8 games played but has increased that to 280 per game in his last six starts. Lawrence has thrown a total of 14 touchdowns and just one interception in his last six games played.

The Jacksonville defense is allowing 370.7 yards of offense per game, the sixth-most in the NFL. The Jaguars are also giving up 23.4 points per game this year. Rayshawn Jenkins recorded his first interception last week and ran it for the winning touchdown against Dallas. Jenkins ranks third in the team with 95 tackles and 11 deflections.

Football New York Jets

The Jets have lost four out of their last five games played including their last three to fall outside the playoff picture. New York is 8-6 ATS on the season but is just 2-3 ATS over their last 5 games played. Injuries have hampered their offense and most recently, it was QB Mike White who got hurt, forcing Zach Wilson to reclaim the QB1 job.

New York averages 336.9 yards per game but they are only putting up 107.6 rushing yards per contest which are the 9th lowest in the league. They have rushed under 100 yards four times in their last 7 games played. Garrett Wilson leads all rookies with 966 receiving yards and 67 catches.

The Jets are a good defensive team, however, ranking third in yards allowed at 305.4. New York is also allowing only 18.8 points per game this season, 4th best in the league. Quinnen Williams ranks 7th in the league with 11 sacks and tied for 4th with 14 tackles with a loss. CJ Mosley also ranks 6th in the league with 130 tackles this season.

Football Jaguars vs Jets SU Prediction

The Jets are 3-1 SU in their last 4 games played against the Jaguars. New York is also 4-1 SU in their last 5 games played against the Jaguars.

Odds from BetOnline as of 12/21/2022

After losing five consecutive games including three where they were betting favorites, the Jaguars have won four out of their last six games played, all as betting underdogs. In three of those wins, they have rallied from double-digit deficits and won with the odds stacked against them. They now have a chance to overtake in the AFC standings a Jets team without Mike White under center.

The Jaguars have won three out of their last four to move to within one game of the Tennessee Titans in the divisional race. Jacksonville won in Tennessee two weeks ago and then picked off Dak Prescott for the game-winning touchdown last weekend. Watch out for the Jaguars’ defense here as Zach Wilson also threw a key interception last week in a 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions.

Wilson threw for 317 yards against Detroit but his interception in the third quarter led to a Lions field goal that was ultimately the difference in the game. The Jets’ running game also never got going last week with Zonovan Knight and Michael Carter combining for 38 yards on 17 carries.

The Jets are a better passing team with White than with Wilson. Coach Robert Saleh benched Wilson in favor of White earlier this season but with White out, he has to put Wilson back.

Jacksonville picked up its second road win two weeks ago by defeating the Titans 36-22. They won that game by being aggressive and the team needs the same mindset against the Jets. The Jaguars are fighting for their playoff lives and need to show they want it. Lawrence has played well as of late. He needs to do so here if they want to win.

While the Jets have not ruled out White, he may be unlikely to play. Save for that interception, Wilson played well against the Lions and he could play well again here. Last season, Wilson ran for a season-high 91 yards against Jacksonville. He needs that kind of effort here. I think Wilson silences his critics here.

New York struggled at home this year at 3-4 SU and ATS. however, Jacksonville has been equally terrible away from home at 2-5 SU and 2-4-1 ATS.

Both these teams lost to the Lions but the Jets lost to the Lions by only three points at home. Meanwhile, Detroit blasted Detroit 40-14 on the road. The Jets also beat the Broncos who won over the Jaguars.

Denver held the Jacksonville offense to 305 yards and Lawrence to 133 passing yards. New York’s defense is better than Denver’s so I expect them to do a better job than the Broncos.

Both teams need to win right now but the Jet should be more desperate after giving away what looked like a sure path to the postseason. The better team wins this.

Both these teams score in the low 20s but the Jets have scored 17 or fewer points five times this season. Jacksonville doesn’t have an excellent running game and the Jets defend well against the run.

Weather is expected to be a factor in this game with heavy rains being predicted with reports that 1-2 inches of rain falling per hour. The rain could lead to sloppy play and less scoring from both sides.

The Jets have scored 20 or fewer points six times in their last 8 games played. The Jaguars have scored 17 or fewer points in five out of their last 10 games played. This should be a low-scoring game.

Prediction: Under 37.5
