The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets invade the Memorial Stadium on 8/29/19 for a Showdown with the Clemson Tigers.

Georgia Tech went 7-5 in the final season of legendary coach Paul Johnson and they got a bowl invite. The Yellow Jackets hired former Temple coach Geoff Collins and now they have a brand new offense, replacing the triple-option which Johnson also ran at Georgia Southern and Navy. DB Juanyeh Thomas had an impressive freshman campaign with three non-offensive touchdowns scored. Although he played for the special teams last season, Collins might want to put his talent on defense this year.

Clemson is coming off an undefeated season and a National title and no question, they are the team to beat against this year. Dabo Swinney’s team has seen some departures but they have reloaded, especially on defense and of course they have the most hyped quarterback in the nation in Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence spent the first four weeks of last season battling Kelly Bryant for the starting job. He earned it later and with Bryant transferring to Missouri, it’s the Trevor Lawrence show now. Lawrence could have easily gone to the NFL this season but he chose to return and now that makes Clemson really tough to beat.

Football Who Wins?

Georgia Tech is 6-3 SU in their last 9 games played. The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 SU in their last six games against the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson is 10-0 SU in their last 10 games played. The Tigers are 15-0 SU in their last 15 games played at home. Head to head, Clemson is 6-1 SU in their last seven games played and 5-0 SU in their last five home games against Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets are on a rebuild and I think it will turn out okay. They have a good coach but Clemson right now is just on a different plane. You wouldn’t want to play them if you’re still trying to figure things out. Overconfidence could be an issue but overall, this is just a too talented Clemson team. Georgia Tech won’t be able to stop Trevor Lawrence in what should be a blowout win for the Tigers. Prediction: Clemson

Georgia Tech has good coaching and a decent team but they do not have the kind of defense that’s going to stop this Tigers team from scoring at will. It’s going to be a picnic for Trevor Lawrence and company. +35 is too many to give away but I think Clemson covers. Prediction: Clemson -35.5

Given that many experts feel this is going to be a 5-touchdown win for Clemson, I think both teams easily make 59 in this contest. Both teams combined to average 77.89 points per game last season so this should at least top the 60-point mark. Prediction: Over 59
