The Cincinnati Reds travel to Milwaukee to open a four-game series with the Brewers beginning Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Miller Field.

Baseball Winless In June

Tanner Roark will open on top of the hill for the Reds on Thursday. The 32-year-old right-hander has started in a total of 14 games this season and has a record of 4-6. Roark has an ERA of 3.63, a WHIP of 1.39 and a BAA of .261. The Reds are 1-5 in his last six starts of the season. The former Illinois standout is looking for his first win of the month.

Roark has pitched a total of 74.1 innings and has allowed a total of 30 earned runs and only five home runs. He has struck out a total of 74 batters while walking 27 others. In his last outing, Roark gave up two earned runs on 8 hits in 7.0 innings pitched. He got the loss as Cincinnati dropped a 3-4 contest to Texas last June 15th.

Shortstop Jose Iglesias leads Cincinnati with his .298 batting average while third baseman Eugenio Suarez has 43 RBIs to lead the Reds. On the other hand, Derek Dietrich has 18 dingers to lead the team. The Reds are hitting at a .232 clip and have scored a total of 303 runs this season.

Baseball Looking For First Win Since Return

For the Brewers, it will be the returning Jimmy Nelson who gets the call to open for the Brewers against the Reds. The 30-year-old right-hander from Klamath Falls in Oregon has started two games this season and has a record of 0-1 with an ERA of 10.29 with a BAA of .290 and a WHIP of 2.14. This will only be Nelson’s third start since 2017 when he suffered a shoulder injury.

Nelson has struggled in his comeback as he’s allowed eight earned runs in his first two starts. His loss came against the Marlins on 6/5/18 in a game where Milwaukee was the baseball betting favorite at -237. In his other start of the year, Nelson allowed four earned runs on five hits in just four innings of pitch work.

Christian Yelich has been the biggest offensive weapon for the Brewers this season. The 27-year-old leads the National League with 26 home runs. He is also 3rd in batting average at .340 and 5th with 57 RBIs for Milwaukee. The Brewers are batting at a .251 clip and have scored a total of 362 runs on the season.

Baseball Who Wins?

The Reds are 5-5 SU in their last 10 games played. Cincinnati is 2-3 SU in their last five games played on the road. The Brewers are also 5-5 SU in their last 10 games played. Milwaukee is 3-0 SU in their last three games played at home. Head to head, the Brewers are 8-2 SU in their last 10 meetings against the Reds. Milwaukee is also 7-3 SU in their last 10 home games against Cincinnati. The Brewers are 6-2 SU in their last eight Thursday games and 7-2 SU in Nelson’s last nine starts.

Neither pitcher has been solid as of late so expect both teams to score runs here. Milwaukee is surely glad to be back home as they start a 10-game homestand. Cincinnati is an opponent which they have dominated, at least in their last 10 games, so expect some home cooking from them in this game.  The Brewers” offense sputtered against the Giants and Padres but they should pick it up here against the Reds. I’m picking the Milwaukee Brewers to beat the Cincinnati Reds on 6/20/19.

The total has gone under in nine out of the last 10 games played by Cincinnati. The Reds have seen the total go under in each of their last five games on the road. The Reds’ pitching staff is among the Top 10 in the link but this season, Roark has been the weakest link on that group. Cincinnati has given up a total of 13 runs in Roark’s last three starts. On the other hand, Nelson heads to this game with an ERA of 10.29. Both these pitchers have struggled to find their groove lately. I think both teams score a fair amount of runs to beat this total. Prediction: Over 9.5
