The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head to the City of Brotherly love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in the Week 6 edition of Thursday Night Football.

Tampa Bay is 4-1 on the season and they are on top of the NFC South Division right now. The Bucs are the new Super Bowl LVI betting favorites and are also the favorites to win the NFC Conference. They are coming off a 45-17 blowout win over the Miami Dolphins at the Raymond James Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-3 on the season and they are 0-2 in two home games played so far. Philadelphia is tied with the Washington Football team for the second-best record in the NFC East division. The Eagles rallied from a 12-point deficit to defeat the Carolina Panthers 21-18 in their Week 5 assignment.

Despite playing without Rob Gronkowski, Tom Brady had a field day against the Miami Dolphins last week. Brady threw for 411 yards with 5 touchdowns and without an interception as the Buccaneers blew out the Miami Dolphins. It was the first time in Brady’s 22-year career where he passed for 400+ yards with five touchdowns. Brady currently leads the league with 1,767 passing yards and is second with 15 passing TDs. Not bad for a 44-year old starting QB.

Antonio Brown also had a huge game with seven catches for 124 receiving yards with two touchdowns. Brown became the fastest player in NFL history to record 900 career catches Mike Evans also caught two TD passes, one for 34 yards and another for 22. Meanwhile, Giovani Bernard also had one TD catch as the Tampa Bay offense played its third straight game without a turnover. And don’t forget, Brady played the game with a thumb injury, although head coach Bruce Arians says it will be a non-factor on Thursday. Gronk isn’t expected to play against the Eagles as is linebacker Lavonte David who suffered an ankle injury against the Dolphins.

Football Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles picked up their second win of the season last week, rallying from 12 points down behind QB Jalen Hurts. Hurts took matters into his own hands, scoring two rushing touchdowns in the second half to help his team overcome the deficit. The Eagles looked like they were headed for their fourth straight defeat when hurts connected on a 53-yard pass to Quez Watkins that set up a TD run. Hurts finished the game with 198 yards on 22-37 passing while rushing for 30 yards on nine carries.

Devonta Smith had seven catches for 77 yards and a two-point conversion for the Eagles but it was the Eagles’ defense that got them going. After allowing 83 points and 851 yards in their previous two games, Philadelphia limited the Panthers to only 267 yards while sacking QB Sam Darnold three times during the game. Tight-end Dallas Goedert was placed on the COVID-19 list on Tuesday and will miss the game. Right tackle Lance Johnson will continue to miss time due to personal matters.

Football Who Wins?

Tampa Bay is 12-1 SU in their last 13 games played. The Bucs are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games played on the road. Philadelphia is 3-10 SU in their last 13 games played. The Eagles are 1-4 SU in their last five games played at home. Head to head the Bucs have won each of the last two meetings between these two teams.

Please Note

Brady is coming off the first 400+ passing yards and 5 TD game of his 22-year NFL career so he is definitely not yet slowing down. Antonio Brown also became the fastest player in NFL history to catch 900 passes so AB isn’t slowing down as well. However, Brown and the receiving corps will have a tougher time this week against Darius Slay and company.

The Philly defense allowed 100 total points from Week 2 to 4 but got its act together in week 5, conceding only 18 points against the Panthers. While they won’t be able to stop Brady and the Bucs from putting up points, they should be able to limit them and keep this game close with their defense. However, the Bucs still win in the end.

The Bucs are clearly the more superior team here and if they can run the ball effectively while not giving the Eagles any shot fields with turnovers, they should be able to win this game by more than a touchdown. However, Philadelphia’s impressive pass defense should be able to limit the Bucs’ scoring opportunities and keep this game within striking distance.

Tampa Bay is 0-7 ATS under the bright lights and they are a team that has always been contented with winning games, regardless of the spread. Philadelphia is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as home underdogs. I’ll take the plus points and the plus money.

Prediction: Eagles +7.5

The total has gone over in four out of the last five games played by the Buccaneers. The over is 22-6 in their last 28 games against the NFC, 21-7 in their last 28 games against an opponent with a losing record, 24-9 in their last 33 October games, 27-11 in their last 38 road games, 6-2 in their last eight games as road favorites, 11-5 in their last 16 games against an opponent with a losing road record, and

8-3 in their last 11 Thursday games.

The total has gone under in 10 out of the last 15 games played by the Eagles. The under is 4-1 in their last five games against the NFC, 23-9 in their last 32 home games, 5-2 in their last seven games as home underdogs, 12-5 in their last 17 games after a straight up win, 13-4 in their last 17 games against an opponent with a winning road record, and 7-3 in their last 10 home games.

Odds from BetOnline as of 10/13/2021

The Buccaneers have been an offensive juggernaut to start the season with Tom Brady showing no signs of slowing down. They rank 1st in passing yards at 349.4 yards per game and are third in the league in points at 33.4 points per game scored. They are also 13th in defense and are allowing just 23.4 points per game this season.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have averaged only 23 points per game this season but they seemed to have turned a corner in the second half of their Week 5 game against the Panthers. We know that the Eagles are better than what they have shown so far and if last weekend’s second-half performance is out gauge, they should be able to keep up with the Bucs, who are still hurting on defense.

I’m expecting a back and forth slugfest with Tampa Bay coming up victorious.

Prediction: Over 51.5
