The Atlanta Hawks hit the road and face the Charlotte Hornets in their hive at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Hawks are looking for momentum as they just broke out of a four game losing streak by defeating the Miami Heat last November 4th while the Hornets are looking for their second winning streak of the season after alternating losses and wins in their last six games. Charlotte is coming off a November 3 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Showing Promise

Rookie point guard Trae Young has shown plenty of promise for the Atlanta Hawks through the first nine games of his NBA career. Young is coming off a 24 points and 15 assists effort in the Hawks’ 123-118 win over the Miami Heat in their most recent outing. The 15 assists represents a career high for Young and it was also his second straight game with at least 10 assists and third double double of the season.

Young has been on a roll lately as he’s made 24 out of 45 shots and has dished off 29 assists in his last 3 games played. That’s a bounce back from the three games before the last three where he shot 29.7% from the floor and had an assist to turnover ratio of 17-19. However, Young has committed a total of 16 turnovers in his last three games. Young is among the leaders in turnovers this year, ranking 416th among 424 players with 3.8 turnovers per game.

Taurean Prince (15.4 PPG) and Kent Bazemore (14.3 PPG) are Young’s main targets and offensive assistants while Dewayne Dedmon leads the Hawks with 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game aside from contributing 8.7 points per game. 41 year old Vince Carter, the oldest player in the NBA, is having an excellent season with his 8.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game average.

Off To A Good Start

The James Borrego era in Charlotte is off to a good start as the Hornets have opened the season at an even 5-5 which currently puts them at #6 in the Eastern Conference early in the season. But the Hornets have not been able to pick up momentum as they have alternated loses and wins in their last six games. In the three games lost over that period, the Hornets’ average losing margin was 2.66 points.

Two-time All-Star guard Kemba Walker is off to a blazing start for the Hornets this season. The 6-1 Walker is averaging a career high 28 points per game while also shooting the ball at a career best .463 from the floor and .404 from behind the three point area. Walker also ranks second to the scorching Stephen Curry with a personal best 4.2 three pointers made per game this season and a total of 42 three point makes this season.

The Hornets boast of a balanced offense with five players averaging in double figures and a sixth player, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist  on the verge with 9.5 points per game. Second year Malik Monk is second in the team in scoring with his 13.4 point average while back-up point guard Tony Parker who was acquired from the Spurs last summer is averaging 10.6 points and 5.0 assists per game this season.

Who Wins?

The Atlanta Hawks are 1-4 SU in their last 4 games on the road and also 1-4 SU in their last 5 games overall. On the other hand, the Charlotte Hornets are 3-2 SU in their last 5 games played at home and likewise 3-2 SU in their last 5 games overall. Head to head, the Hornets are 5-0 SU in the last five games between these two teams in Charlotte and 7-1 SU in their last 8 meetings overall.

The Hawks lead the all-time series between these teams 61-52 but have won just twice in their last 10 meetings. Currently, Charlotte has a four game winning streak against the Hawks, winning all four meetings last season and they have lost just once to Atlanta in the last two years.

Kemba Walker loves to play against the Hawks as last season, his 29.3 scoring average in four games against the Hawks was his third best against all NBA teams after Memphis and Dallas. Walker shot a ridiculous 58.5% from the three point line against the Hawks last season and made an average of 6 three pointers per game against Atlanta during the 2017-18 campaign.

Betting Prediction

Four of the Hornets’ losses this season have come against Milwaukee, Toronto, Philadelphia and Oklahoma City who were playoff teams last season and who are also expected to make the postseason this year. The Hawks look better this year than last year, thanks to Trae Young mainly but against Kemba Walker, I think the veteran wins this match up and the game as well.

We’re picking the Charlotte Hornets to beat the Atlanta Hawks on 11/6/18.

The average score between these two teams in their last ten games against each other is 105.3-98.7 points in favor of the Hornets. Seven out of the last eight wins by the Hornets over the Hawks have been by at least 11 points. Charlotte swept Atlanta last season 4-0 by an average winning margin of 13.5 points per game with no winning margin fewer than 11 points. The home team is 12-4-1 in the last 17 meetings between these teams. Four of the Hornets’ five wins this season have come via double digits. The spread looks too steep but the Hornets are playing at home.

Betting Prediction

Anytime you pit a team with Kemba Walker against a team with Trae Young, you’re going to have a shootout. Walkers and Young rank 1st and 4th, in scoring respectively among players 6-2 and under. This is their first ever meeting and you bet both want to make a lasting first impression. The trends point to under but that was before the Trae Young era. I think this is gonna be a shootout.

Prediction: Over 233.5
