It’s Pac-12 vs the Mountain West Conference as the Arizona Wildcats take on the Hawaii Warriors at the Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is the first meeting between the two teams since 2016 when Arizona won 47-28 at home.

The Arizona Wildcats played in a Bowl Game in five out of six seasons under Rich Rodriguez who was replaced in 2017. Kevin Sumlin took over last season and the Wildcats didn’t make a Bowl Game after finishing with a 5-7 record. With 15 starters back from last season, Sumlin hopes to take Arizona back to the postseason. QB Khalil Tate will return after an injury-plagued 2018 season. A healthy Tate and a returning RB JJ Taylor should help them improve their 31.3 PPG average last season.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors were among the inexperienced teams last season but they ended up with an 8-6 record. They played in the Hawaii Bowl where they lost to Louisiana Tech 14-31. Despite the loss, it was a big year as the Rainbow Warriors were only 3-9 in 2017. With the 4th most experienced team in the nation this season, bigger things are expected from Hawaii. They have 18 starters back from last season including QB Cole McDonald. Cedric Byrd and JoJo Ward will return after impressive seasons as well. Hawaii averaged 30.5 PPG last season and given what they are almost returning the same team from last season, that maybe their baseline for the coming season. However, the Rainbow Warriors enter this game as the football betting underdog against Arizona.

Football Who Wins?

Arizona is 5-10 SU in their last 15 games, 1-7 SU in their last 8 games on the road, and 8-1 SU in their last nine games against the Mountain West Conference. Hawaii is 2-5 SU in their last seven games played, 1-10 SU in their last 11 games against the Pacific 12 conference and 1-4 SU in their last five games as the betting underdog.

This is a dangerous season opener for the Wildcats. It’s going to be a long journey and they will be facing a veteran team. However, their rejuvenated defense should make enough plays in the 4th quarter to give them a win in a competitive and high-scoring game. Prediction: Arizona Wildcats

I like the Wildcats to win this game but I think the Rainbow Warriors’ run and shoot offense which worked well last season will keep in the thick of the fight against Arizona. Arizona’s defense should make the stops in the end but not after Hawaii makes a game out of this. Prediction: Hawaii +11

The total has gone over in four out of Arizona’s last five games played and the over is also 15-5 in their last 20 games as favorites. On the other hand, the under is 5-1 in Hawaii’s last six games played at home but the over is 5-0 in their last five-week 1 game.

Earlier, we talked about a healthy Khalil Tate returning for Arizona. If Tate rediscovers his 2017 form, he is going to give their offense an added boost. Likewise, Cole McDonald is a year older and should be smarter, giving the Rainbow Warriors a better offense than what we saw the last time out. Prediction: Over 70.5
