The second Grand Slam tournament of the year is nearly upon us. The French Open will get underway at Roland Garros on May 28, and the tables in the men’s and women’s tournaments have turned.

Rafa Nadal is not the overwhelming favorite in the men’s tournament after dominating forever, while the Women’s French Open 2023 betting odds show that IgaSwiatek is almost a certain winner.

But is that truly the case? I explore the lines, the favorites, and a few sleepers before sharing my Women’s Roland Garros predictions in this post.

2023 Women’s Roland Garros Top Contenders

Let’s discuss the main contenders to win the 2023 French Open. IgaSwiatek is the defending champion and an overwhelming favorite. However, I see at least two players that can challenge her.

If you are betting on the 2023 Women’s French Open, you should never solely focus on the favorite. Grand Slams are long and exhausting, so you never know what might happen.

Iga Swiatek

  • Age: 21
  • Country: Poland
  • WTA Ranking: 1st

Since the beginning of 2022, Swiatek has been virtually unstoppable while competing on clay courts. It’s the surface on which she often dominates, thus making her a massive betting favorite. Many consider her to be the female version of Rafael Nadal on red.

Swiatek was so dominant at Roland Garros last year that she dropped only a single set. In 2020, it was a similar story. She also won the French Open that year without losing more than five games in a set! I genuinely don’t remember seeing that before.

The French Open also isn’t the only Grand Slam tournament in which Swiatek excels. She’s won the U.S. Open and advanced to the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2022. The Polish youngster is a future great if she can stay healthy.

In terms of recent form, Swiatek is also looking phenomenal right now. She recently defended her title in the Stuttgart Open, defeating ArynaSabalenka in the final match. The victory gave her 13 singles titles in her career.

If Swiatek is fit and anywhere close to her best, she is better than any other player that will compete in the French Open.

Aryna Sabalenka

  • Age: 25
  • Country: Belarus
  • WTA Ranking: 2nd

Sabalenkawas able to defeat Swiatek on clay during the final match of the Madrid Open, so she will arrive in Paris full of confidence. The Belarusian athlete also won her first Grand Slam in 2023 by claiming the Australian Open. The next goal is to build upon her recent success.

Sabalenka has recently hit her peak years, and her achievements have catapulted her in the WTA rankings. The current world number 2 haswon 13 singles titles in her career, three of them this year.

On the downside, Sabalenka’s history at the Roland Garros isn’t favorable. She’s only gotten to the third round on three different occasions. The Belorussian player must improve dramatically to even reach a match against Swiatek, let alone defeat her.

Cori Gauff

  • Age: 19
  • Country: United States
  • WTA Ranking: 5th

Everyone is still waiting for Cori Gauff to secure a major breakthrough victory. She’s only 19 years old, but it feels like she’s been around for a while now. The young tennis prodigy is still seeking her first Grand Slam title.

Gauff was last year’s runner-up in the French Open. It was the best performance in a Grand Slam tournament of her career. The American lost to Swiatek in straight sets, but many believe the experience could be beneficial.

I must point out that Gauff isn’t having her best season so far in 2023. The 19-year-old American was recently eliminated in the Round of 32 at the Madrid Open. Gauff has also not reached a final since she won the ASB Classic in January.

The potential to win the French Open is there, but the recent form and the lack of experience are concerning. Gauff can easily register another deep run this year, but winning the whole thing might be a step too far.

Best Women’s French Open 2023 Sleepers

I also want to point out a few sleepers who could overperform at Roland Garros in 2023. Keep in mind that aside from Swiatek, the women’s competition is wide open. You never know who’s going to catch fire and win the tournament.

  • Danielle Collins (+4000). The 29-year-old American competed in the final match of the Australian Open last year. She’s not the most dominant player, but she can contend at Roland Garros with the right game plan.
  • Jessica Pegula (+2000). Pegula has yet to advance past the quarter-finals in a Grand Slam tournament. However, she’s now the No. 3 player in the world, and her recent form has been phenomenal.
  • Belinda Bencic (+3300). A hip issue forced Bencic out of the Madrid Open in April. However, this gives her plenty of time to heal up and prepare for Roland Garros. Bencic has won eight singles titles in her career and can go far in the tournament.

These players caught my attention, but you shouldn’t dismiss anyone with potential. The Women’s French Open tournaments are notoriously unpredictable.

2023 Women’s French Open Prediction and Betting Pick

It’s extremely difficult for me to bet against IgaSwiatek. The Polish phenom has dominated the competition so far in 2023. She makes very few mistakes and continues to look impressive. I expect her to win again at Roland Garros with relative ease.

The 2023 Women’s French Open betting odds also favor Swiatek because no one is better than her on clay. She’s also picked up some convincing results so far in 2023, and I expect that trend to continue. Swiatek is the hottest player on earth, and seemingly no one can stop her.
