I have a confession to make. I’m not a person who likes to do a lot of legwork to find out information. I’m pretty lazy. I will look on the internet. I will ask friends. I will watch YouTube videos. But I don’t want to leave the couch to figure out where I’m staying. That being said, I have used this method for years and it works out most of the time. I have been to Atlantic City over 50 times and I have stayed at all the big hotels and played at all the casinos.

Since you have come across this post, I assume that you are a bit like me and like information at the tip of your fingers. So, from one lazy person to another, I will share my experiences with you. Besides my experiences, I also share some other information that can help you decide which hotel and casino to stay at in Atlantic City. This includes ratings from different review sites and approximate costs for the rooms.

Since ratings can vary from site to site, I came up with a cumulative rating from the sources that I used for your convenience. If you are planning to stay, plan far ahead. Some of these hotels will book months in advance, especially in good weather when people can enjoy the beach. But some are booked far in advance any time of year.

Bally’s Atlantic City Casino

Location: 1900 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401

Ratings:

  • Trip Advisor: 3.5 out of 5.0

  • Expedia: 3.7 out of 5.0

Average room price: $65-$475 per night depending on room type.

Bally’s will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2019. It is one of the most well-known and the most visited. Bally’s has 2 casinos. The main Bally’s Atlantic and the 1800’s American West-themed Wild Wild West Casino. The 2 casinos provided players with over 5,000 slot machines, poker, keno, craps, multi-player roulette, video blackjack and more.

Just because Bally’s is 40 years old, don’t think it’s out of date. In 2015, Bally’s Atlantic City went through extensive renovations that modernized the entire property. Rooms have been upgraded with the latest amenities and conveniences including new furniture, flat-screen TVs and all rooms have wi-fi. But the renovations didn’t stop there. Both casinos were overhauled. Modern games were added. Table games such as roulette and blackjack were upgraded to allow more players by computerizing the dealers.

My last stay there was a pretty good time. I went in the middle of the week during the off-season and got a deal on the room. It was $40 a night for a room in the “Dennis Tower” section of the hotel. The room was nice. The staff was friendly and receptive. It was a good time. I’m not one who likes to spend a lot of money on the room because I would rather have it for my bankroll. So it was great to get a good deal.

Bally’s Atlantic City Casino is owned by Caesar’s Entertainment, so you can use the Caesar’s Total Rewards card when visiting. And I recommend that you do. This is how you get the “comps” that the hotel offers.

The Resorts Atlantic City Hotel and Casino is a fixture in Atlantic City. With portions of the building dating back to the 1920s, the casino officially opened in 1978. The theme of the casino is the “Roaring 20” and takes you back to a time when the “Charleston” and “flappers” were all the rage.

The casino features over 1,500 slot machines, 3-card poker, 4-card poker, blackjack, craps, Let It Ride, mini-baccarat, Pai Gow poker, Pai Gow tiles, roulette, Spanish 21, and Texas hold ‘em Bonus The last updates to the hotel and casino were done in 2011. That’s not to say that place is out of date or not kept up well. I found it to be very clean and have all the features I would expect in a hotel.

My last visit was about 2 years ago. I got a room for $50 with a king size bed and it had more features than I expected for the price. Along with a huge flat screen TV and wi-fi (which I expect anywhere I stay), it had a mini fridge, a coffee maker, a safe (which is great to protect those winnings), a hair dryer, and iron and an ironing board. The staff was very receptive to my needs and I found them to be extremely courteous.

The Resorts Atlantic City Hotel and Casino has a reward card called the Star Card. This is used to accumulate the comps that the hotel offers. This card is honored not only at the Resorts Atlantic City, but at other properties managed by the Mohegan Sun casino groups. So if you tend to visit casinos throughout the Northeast, you can save points and use them at any of their casinos.

This huge casino has been a fixture in Atlantic City since 1980. The casino floor has over 5,500 slot machines, Big 6, blackjack, Blazing 7’s blackjack progressive, Caribbean stud, craps, criss cross poker, double attack blackjack, flop poker, Fortune Pai Gow, 4-card poker, Let It Ride, midi-baccarat, mini-baccarat, Pai Gow poker, roulette, Spanish 21, Texas hold’ em Bonus, and 3-card poker.

I visited Harrah’s at the end of 2016. It was a nice place. My only issue was that they were renovating the hotel. I was told that renovations will continue through the middle of 2019. The good news is that realize that this is an inconvenience and offer substantially discounted rooms. I was able to get a room for $40 during my stay and the construction, although noticeable, didn’t affect my stay.

The rooms and staff were nice. There were not a lot of frills in the room amenities. I had a big TV, wi-fi, a coffee maker, and iron and ironing boards. But for $40 a night I wasn’t complaining.

Welcome to Old Havana, circa 1930. That is the theme of the newly renovated Tropicana Casino and Resort Atlantic City. The casino has over 2,400 slot machines and over 150 table games. You can play craps, roulette, blackjack, baccarat, Caribbean Stud, Let it Ride, 3-card poker, and 4-card poker as well as others. They also have daily poker tournaments.

I was last at the Trop in 2015. I was lucky enough to get into one of the newly renovated rooms at the time (they had renovations on-going from 2015-2018). I was very impressed. The room was huge (I only booked an inexpensive room in the Havana Tower). I only spent $35 a night and I was very happy with the level of service the staff provided and the room. The room had a big TV, wi-fi, a mini-fridge, and a coffee maker.

The Tropicana has its own rewards card. It has a lot of benefits including free comps for shows, the IMAX Theater and tickets to a Carnival cruise if enough points are earned.

Another Casino that has been around a while in Atlantic City is Caesars. As you would expect, Caesar’s has a Roman theme much like its Las Vegas counterpart. It is part of the Caesar’s Entertainment family of hotels and casinos which includes Bally’s. The hotel has been around since 1966 and has been renovated a few times. The last time was in 2008. While it is nice, it is due for an update, so expect that to happen in the next few years if you are planning to visit.

The casino is split into four sections:

  • The Palace East (Asian gaming section)
  • Slots
  • Poker Room
  • Table Game Room

The casino features over 3,000 slots, 20 poker tables and 120 other table games including roulette, craps, baccarat, and blackjack. The rooms are nice. The room I had had a big TV, comfortable bed, coffee maker, mini-fridge and a place to do some work when I needed to. I was put off by the extra charge for wi-fi in the room. It was hard to get a signal for my hotspot mobile internet device as well. I did get the room for $35 a night, so that was a good price. Like Bally’s, Caesar’s uses the Caesar’s Entertainment Total Rewards Card for the comp points.

The Ocean Resort Casino is one of the few hotels I haven’t stayed in. At least not in its current incarnation. I last stayed at this location in 2010 when it was the Revel. The hotel closed for 6 years due to legal issues. A new owner came in and reopened the hotel and casino in June 2018.

The casino has over 2,500 slots machines and 120 table games. You can choose from such games as 3-card poker, 4-card poker, Big 6, blackjack, craps, Fortune Pai Gow Poker, Let It Ride, mini-baccarat, roulette, and Spanish 21. Rooms include wi-fi, flat screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffee makers.

If you are an online casino player, then you have heard of the Golden Nugget. In 2011, the Landry’s Inc., owner of Joe’s Crab Shack and Saltgrass Steakhouse acquired Trump Marina and renamed it the Golden Nugget.

The Golden Nugget markets the online casino as an extension of its physical casino to guests. The physical casino has over 1,500 slot machines and 0ver 80 table games. Among the table games, you can play are 3-card poker, 4-card poker, blackjack, craps, European roulette, mini-baccarat, Mississippi Stud, Pai Gow poker, and ultimate Texas hold’ em.

The rooms at the Golden Nugget are nice and big. Each one has a TV, a refrigerator, a safe, an iron and ironing board, a hairdryer, and free wi-fi. I liked the staff and atmosphere at the Golden Nugget. I had a recent stay there last year and I will certainly go back. The Golden Nugget’s reward card it called the 24K Select Club. It can be used at any Golden Nugget location to accumulate comps.

Easily the biggest hotels and casino in Atlantic City, the Borgata has been around for 15 years. The hotel has over 2000 rooms and features a 46” TV, coffee maker, and wi-fi (there’s a $15 fee added on to the room rate for this). The customer service at the Borgata is top-notch, and it should be because it is among the more expensive resorts in Atlantic City. I would stay here more often, but as I said, I like to save my money for the casino.

The casino has 4,000 slot machines, 180 table games, and 50 poker tables and is connected with the World Poker Tour. The hotel an MGM hotel and has a rewards program called M Life which can be used at any MGM casino for comp points.

As you can see from the list of amenities at each location, there are other things to do besides gambling. You can catch a show, shop, dance, or simply walk along the beach. So next time you are considering a trip to the casino, Atlantic City is a great choice for a fun and entertaining time.
